Drug Administration (FDA) warned consumers not to purchase or use the
sexual enhancement natural product called “X-Rock” manufactured by CRM
Laboratories. X-Rock can be purchased online . The FDA found sildenafil and
hydroxythiohomosildenafil (an analog of sildenafil).

Sildenafil is the active ingredient in Viagra, a prescription drug
used for erectile
dysfunction. There are serious drug interactions when taking sildenafil and
nitrates, which have even resulted in death.
Nitrates may be taken by men with
diabetes, high blood sugar, high cholesterol, or heart disease.
When sildenafil
is taken with nitrates, there is a drastic reduction in blood pressure.
Sildenafil interacts with the drug ritonavir (Norvir,
Kaletra). The levels of sildenafil in the blood are increased as much as 11
times. This may result in low blood pressure and vision problems.
There can also be a significant decrease in blood pressure
when sildenafil is taken with certain blood pressure medications.
Side effects of long-term use of sildenafil include vision
loss and hearing impairment, both of which may be permanent. Other more common
side effects include headache, flushing, and abdominal discomfort.
The FDA warned consumers of the growing incidence of tainted
natural products. They stated, “This notification is to inform the public of a
growing trend of products marketed as dietary supplements or conventional foods
with hidden drugs and chemicals. These products are typically promoted for
sexual enhancement, weight loss, and body building, and are often represented
as being “all natural.”
FDA is unable to test and identify all products
marketed as dietary supplements on the market that have potentially harmful
hidden ingredients. Consumers should exercise caution before purchasing any
product in the above categories.”
The FDA has a webpage listing all the tainted sexual
enhancement products they have identified in recent months.
